Research story/portrait

This manual is no longer in use. Instead, you can find guidelines and instructions for working on gu.se, the Student Portal, and the Hotel Portal in Redaktörsmanual Drupal.

Description

The “Research story/portrait” content type is intended for more popular science-type content. This template makes it easy for editors to create stylish magazine-like pages. The template has the same appearance as the news article template, allowing text and images to be combined freely. It will also be possible to add a fact box at the bottom of the page.

This content type can be created by both web editors and content editors.

Do as follows:

  1. To create a Research article/portrait page, switch to the “Content” tab in the top left.

  2. Click the “Research article/portrait” link.

  3. Click the “+ Add research article/portrait” button.

  4. Language
Swedish is the default language version, although you can also choose to create an English version of your page first by selecting “English” from the drop-down list in the “Language” field.
  5. Title
Enter the Research story heading in the “Title” field (required).
  6. Preamble
Write an introduction, a shorter summary of the news article, in the “Preamble” field (required). Feel free to copy the introduction from the body text of the news article.
  7. Body
Add the complete body copy to the “Body text” field. You can also add subheadings, links, lists, images, video clips and tables. Feel free to format the text to make the page easier to read.
  8. Area
Under “area”, choose one or more categories applicable to your news article (required).

  9. Header image/video
The “Header image/video” tab allows you to add a header image or a header video at the top of the page.
    Video cover
Add an image to be used as a cover image for the video before it’s played in the “Video cover” field (required). Click the grey “Open image library” button. See the instructions under 8a.

    1. Header image
Click the grey “Open image library” button.
      1. You can now choose one of the links: “Space image” (pre-selected), “Shared image library” or “Upload new image”.

      2. Select image
To select a previously uploaded image, click the image (green checkmark) and then the blue “Select image” button in the lower left.
      3. Alt text and Image text
Once you’ve chosen an image, you need to complete the “Alt text” field (required) and the image text for the image in the “Image text” field. Images which are purely decorative or carry no information are not, however, to have an alt text, so enter <none> in the text field.

    2. Header video
Click the grey “Add Video” button. If you’ve added both a header image and a header video, the video will be shown.

      1. Title
Enter the video title in the “Title” field (required).
      2. Video URL
Paste a link from, for example, YouTube, Vimeo or GU Play in the “Video URL” field (required).
      3. Video length
Enter the length of the video in the “Video length” field (required).
      4. Video cover
Add an image to be used as a cover image for the video before it’s played in the “Video cover” field (required). Click the grey “Open image library” button. See the instructions under 8a
      5. Create video
Click the grey “Create video” button to save the settings or “Cancel” to return to the main tabs.

  10. Blurb settings
The “Promo settings” tab enables you to upload an alternative image for the promo, which is shown instead of the header image. If you have a header video on the page and you upload an image here, this image will be used in the promo (otherwise the promo will use a background colour).
    1. Blurb image
Click “Promo image” to upload an alternative image for the promo, which is to be shown instead of the header image. If you have a header video on the page and you upload an image here, this image will be used in the promo (otherwise the promo will use a background colour).
Click the grey “Open image library” button. See the instructions under 8a.
    2. Blurb heading
To ensure that the news article looks good when you create a promo for it, enter a shorter heading in the “Promo heading” field.
    3. Blurb introduction
When a news article is used in a promo, the normal introduction is used. This is often long, so it’s cut short by the system and followed by an ellipsis (…). Here you can enter a shorter  introduction in the “Promo introduction” field that will be used in the promo.

  11. Fact box
The “Fact box” field allows you to add facts which aren’t part of the news article and these are then shown under the article.
    1. Enter the heading in the “Heading” field.
    2. Enter the text in the editor’s “Facts” field.
  12. Documents
To add a document, click the grey “Add document” button in the “Documents” field.

    1. You can now choose one of the links: “Browse existing documents” (pre-selected) or “Upload new document”.
    2. To select a previously uploaded document, check the checkbox to the left of the document and then the blue “Select document” button in the lower left.
  13. Related content
The “Related content” tab allows you to add up to 5 promos to help visitors to find information related to the news article.
    1. Click the grey “Add promo” button to add related content.
    2. In the next window, specify whether the promo is internal or external.
      1. Internal promo
        1. Link
On the “Link” tab (required), you can search for the content to be linked from the promo. The promo will be created automatically using the title, introduction and image of the linked content.
        2. Modify
If you want to use another title and/or introduction than those used by the linked page:
          1. Enter a heading in the “Promo title” field.
          2. Enter an alternative introduction in the “Promo summary” field to be used in the promo.
        3. Promo image

        4. Exit by clicking the “Save promo” button.
      2. External promo

Use the “Title” field to enter the promo title (required).

        6. Exit by clicking the “Save promo” button.
  14. By default, the page is set to “Draft” and isn’t published.
    1. To publish the page, select “Published” from the “Save as” drop-down list and click “Save”.
    2. If you want to preview the page before publishing it, you can save it as a “Draft”. To save a draft of the page, select “Draft” from the “Save as” drop-down list and click “Save”.
    3. Once the page is published, you can change the page status to “Unpublished”.
